The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, NCRIB and the Lagos State Government have tighten ties to ensure insurance education is sustained for the promotion of insurance by secondary school students in the state.
The Council took this step when its delegation visited the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. Speaking, the Deputy President of the Council, Mr. Babatunde Oguntade regretted the slow acceptance of insurance as a subject in the curriculum of secondary school and noted that the Brokers body craved the support of the State Ministry of Education to change the narrative positively
Oguntade who is also the Chairman of the Research and Development Committee of the Council opined that against noxious beliefs about insurance, the profession was one that accommodated diverse people from varied educational backgrounds which ultimately provides basis for the richness of the professionHe applauded the Lagos State Government for its undying enthusiasm to support the move by the Council to synergise efforts with the state government in fashioning a robust curriculum for insurance education that would stimulate the interest of secondary school students
The state Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo rued the poor acceptance of insurance generally in the society despite the huge potentials of the profession She opined that providers of insurance needed to be more proactive in stimulating the interest of the youth in insurance subject Adefisayo disclosed that the comprehensive school project of the Lagos State Government should be utilized by the Council and the insurance industry generally to provide hands-on training for students of the peculiar schools towards making them self-reliant as against obsession for certificate
She advised the industry on the need to rethink and re-engineer as a way of making insurance a favourable option for the youth
NCRIB, BIBA  tightens ties in the UK

The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, NCRIB, led brokers to United Kingdom for British Insurance Brokers Association, BIBA conference by the Council’s President, Mr Rotimi Edu and the Executive Secretary of the NCRIB, Mr Tope Adaramola for BIBA 2022 conference  in the United Kingdom.

NCRIB, Institute of Archicture to tackle building collapse

Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers,  NCRIB and the Nigerian Institute of Archicture, NIA,meet to find an enduring way to curtail the building collapse in the country

The NCRIB president, Mr Rotimi Edu, lent his voice to the topic of disastrous building collapse in Nigeria in a lecture, titled, “Insurance for Architect and Professionals”, during the February Business Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Architects held in Lagos.

Mr. Edu who was the guest speaker at the well-attended Business Meeng of the Institute urged all professionals in built industry to pay more a*enon to all specificatons of building construction to avoid incessant building collapse that had claimed several lives.

As a way out, Mr. Edu said that the issue of enforcement of relevant laws that would ensure that contractors were not negligent in discharging their responsibililes, including all required insurance policies, should not be held with kid-gloves.

According to him, there were many buildings across the country that were not proper and +t for human habitation, he appealed to all relevant agencies which include both the Federal and State Fire Services to act in accordance with the law and clamp down on such buildings Mr. Edu however, urged members of the Nigerian Institute of Architects to embrace insurance policies that are relevant to their profession.

He noted that members of Nigerian Institute of Architects were mandated by law to have Professional indemnity among many other types of policies that are available. Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Architects, Arc David Majekodunmi blamed the incessant building collapse on relevant government agencies that were not seen doing what they ought to do.

Mr. Majekodunmi lamented that government has not been seen implementing several recommendations of panel of enquiries raised to address the menace of building collapse.He also noted that most of the building collapses were basically negligence by professionals, clients and workers, who would have been brought to book and serve as deterrent to others if government implanted the recommendation submitted by the panel

The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) have strengthen the ties of the two bodies to ensure the law on compulsory insurances.is enforced in the country

In a  statement released by the Corporate Affairs Manager, NCRIB, Dele Ayeleso, said though, there have been strident advocacy for the enforcement of the law as enshrined in Insurance Act 2003 by National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), significant momentum is yet to be generated with the law in the Country raising concern among operators and relevant stakeholders.

Receiving the NCRIB delegations led by its President, Rotimi Edu in Lagos, President of the CIIN, Dr. Muftau Oyegunle emphasized the need for industry stakeholders of which the NCRIB is paramount, to device a more ingenious strategy that would accelerate the momentum for compulsory insurance covering Builders Liability Insurance, Employers Liability Insurance, Motor 3rd Party Liability Insurance, Employers Liability Insurance (Group Life), Occupiers Liability Insurance, Healthcare Professional Indemnity Insurance.

The CIIN President who applauded the leadership of the NCRIB said insurance Brokers constitute a critical segment of the Institute’s membership and its place in the insurance and financial services sector cannot be underestimated.

Oyegunle promised the support of the institute for the professionalism of broking practice by collaborating with the NCRIB on the proposed examination syllabus of Insurance broking of its membership.

Speaking earlier, President of the NCRIB, Rotimi Edu said his team’s visit was also to appraise the Institute leadership with its policy thrust anchored on “Brokers’ Centrism”.

Edu utilized the visit to inform the CIIN about the forth coming 60th anniversary of the Council, for which it sought the institute support.
